>G-20 Student Summit

>

As you may already be aware, the G-20 will be in town for the Pittsburgh Summit this September. We are taking advantage of this opportunity to educate students and community members about the G-20 through conferences and educational programs. Our G-20 Student Summit will take place at Fox Chapel High School on September 17th (one week before the official summit).

PopCity just wrote a great article about the program: G20 Student Summit Helps Area Kids Get Global.

Stay tuned to this blog for information about the G-20: Summit details, classroom and personal resources, educational program information, etc. We’ll be updating as frequently as we can, now that our vacation season is finished! :)

>G-20 “The Basics” Video

While you’re waiting for another update from our European travelers, why not watch the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh’s new video on the upcoming G-20 Summit?

“The Basics” is a short, informative film about the Summit, which will be held in Pittsburgh this September. It features interviews with local residents as well as basic “need to know” information about the G-20.

>Pittsburgh to host the Next G-20 Summit

>

We were excited to learn yesterday that Pittsburgh would be the host of the next G-20 economic summit (which will be held on September 24-25, 2009). The world’s attention will be focused on on our region as delegates from twenty of the world’s top economies meet at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, “White House officials expect delegations from 25 nations to attend… The U.S. delegation will have about 250 people, the United Kingdom’s delegation will have about 150 and the remaining groups each will have roughly 50, he said. About 2,000 members of the media are expected.”

While city officials are beginning to sort out the logistics and security necessary for a meeting of this caliber, the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh is also planning. The Council will likely host at least one “Summit Preview” program for adults in the community, and one “large-scale” school program about the G-20 in mid-September. Stay tuned for details!!
