A congratulations is in order. David A. Murdoch, Esq., Chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, will receive the Bundesverdienstkreuz (the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany) during a luncheon on February 22, 2010.
It’s the only honor that may be awarded in all fields of endeavor and is the highest tribute the Federal Republic of Germany can pay to an individual for services to the nation. The Order of Merit may be awarded to Germans as well as foreigners for achievements in the political, economic, social or intellectual realm and for all kinds of outstanding services to the nation to the nation in the field of social, charitable, or philanthropic work.
The Cross of the Order of Merit is a capstone for Mr. Murdoch, after an illustrious career dedicated to improving Germany-U.S. relations and educating the public on international issues.
Presenting the award on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany is Dr. Horst Freitag, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany to New York. Freitag will also lecture on the topic of: The U.S. and the EU: From Pittsburgh to the G-20 Summits in 2010.
