>Girls Playing A Different Kind of Dress-Up in AfghanistanPosted: September 21, 2010
>Check out this interesting article from yesterday’s NYTimes! The article details the trend of young Afghan girls being dressed like boys to preserve the family honor and make economic contributions to the family. Jenny Nordberg writes about these “bacha posh”(Dari for “dressed like a boy”) being able to assume some of the freedoms traditionally given to males in Afghan society, even though these “little boys” are really little girls. After the girls go through puberty, they resume living life as a woman. What do you think about this practice? Comment below!
